SUNY의 창립멤버이자 수학 프로그램 Potsdam miracle 의 주인공, 1816년에 Potsdam Normal School 로 설립된 SUNY Potsdam 의 음대인 Crane School of Music 을 소개합니다.

1886 년에 설립 된 SUNY Potsdam의 Crane School of Music은 음악 교육 및 공연 분야에서 오랜 전통을 자랑합니다. 

Potsdam Normal School 은 미국에서 공립학교 음악교사들을 위한 일반 교육 과정을 제공 한 미국 최초의 기관이 되었습니다. 

Julia E. Crane이 설립 한 Crane Normal Institute of Music은 오늘날 음악 교육 분야의 리더로서 세계적으로 유명한 

Crane School of Music으로 계속 이어지고 있습니다.

Crane 음대에서는 매년 교수, 학생 및 guest artists가 제공하는 300 개가 넘는 리사이틀, 강의 및 콘서트가 포함됩니다. 

Crane School of Music은 SUNY의 유일한 All-Steinway School 입니다. 이후 Crane School of Music을 Crane 음대라 稱 합니다.

Crane 음대는 학부학생 630명, 대학원생 30여명 그리고 70여명의 교수진으로 학부중심의 프로그램을 운영합니다.  Crane School of Music은 음악학사 (BM) 과정이 없으며, 학부에서 음악을 전공하려는 학생들은 예술학사 과정 (BA in music performance)을 선택해야 합니다.

음대는 2 개의 교실 건물 (Bishop 및 Schuette Hall), 3 개의 콘서트 공간 (Helen M. Hosmer Concert Hall (1290 석), Sara M. Snell Music Theater (452 석), 그리고 Ralph Wakefield Lecture and Recital Hall)로 구성되어 있습니다.

Crane School of Music Facilities 

1839년 Harvard에 이어 미국에서 두 번째 대학 오케스트라로 설립된 Crane Symphony Orchestra는 Franklin Bishop이 지휘자로 

있은 1917-40년에 그 명성을 얻었고, Helen Hosmer가 1931년 창단한 Crane Chorus와 많은 공연을 협연함으로 명성을 이어갑니다.
