Undergraduate Recommendations:
- Common Application Letter of Recommendation
- Stony Brook University requires all applicants to submit one letter of recommendation from a teacher or counselor. Those applying to honors programs are required to submit two letters of recommendation from teachers.

- Music Application Letter of Recommendation
- One letter of recommendation from a music teacher must be submitted with this application.
- This letter of recommendation is in addition to those submitted in support of your application to Stony Brook University.
- The letter of recommendation may also be emailed directly to the Undergraduate Secretary (Germaine.Berry@stonybrook.edu).
- Be sure that your name, along with instrument or area of concentration, appears at the top of the email.
- Note: This letter of recommendation may be from the same person who supported your application to the University, ifthat person was a music teacher.

Graduate Recommendations:
- 3 recommendation letters are required.
- Can the person who is recommending me send a paper recommendation?
- Yes. From your online account you can download a paper recommendation form and give it to your recommender.
- Paper recommendations must be sent directly to the graduate program you are applying to in sealed envelopes, signed across the seal by the recommender.
- Within the application there is a link for submitting recommendation letters electronically, or you may print out the form and hand it to your recommenders for hard copy submission.
- If you are planning to send the letters by mail, have your references send their letters to you.
- Do not open the envelopes.
- We need two originals of each letter (if the recommendations are not done online).
