Conducting Audition Information

Conducting (MM)

l  Conducting applicants will submit up to 5 links (URLs, YouTube is best) to videos of yourself performing a total of 20 to 30 minutes.

l  Excerpts should be from both a rehearsal and a performance. The camera should be aimed at the conductor’s face and hands. It should not be from the audience’s perspective. A high-quality video is the first step toward an invitation to audition in person.

l  After faculty review of your videos, transcripts, and other application materials, you may be invited for an audition with one of the School of Music ensembles, including an interview with the conducting faculty.

Choral Conducting: Contact: Professor Beverly Taylor.

The graduate choral conducting program prepares students for the challenges of professional life in conducting, which includes academic teaching at the college level or public schools, in major church or community jobs, or working with professional ensembles and orchestras. This select graduate choral conducting program gives individual attention to each student with private conducting lessons, small conducting seminars, intensive choral literature seminars, and a large amount of podium time. Graduate students sing in one or more ensembles, co-conduct the Masters Singers, and may have a teaching assistantship for University Chorus or Women’s Chorus. There are additional opportunities in Madison for church jobs and community choruses.

* The Choral Conducting program will be accepting applications for Fall 2020. Teaching Assistant positions and other funding will be available.
