Brass Audition Information

Trumpet (BM, MM, & DMA)

A selection of contrasting works;

l  1st movement Hummel Concerto

l  2nd movement of the Haydn Concerto

l  1st movement of the Hindemith or Halsey Stevens Sonata

l  Goedicke Concert Etude

Trombone (BM, MM, & DMA)

A movement or movements from two contrasting pieces or equivalent:

l  Ballade by Bozza (complete)

l  Concertino by David (2nd and 3rd movements.)

l  Saint-Saëns Cavetina (complete)

l  Know all major and min or scales

French Horn (BM, MM, & DMA)

Undergraduate:

l  Two pieces of contrasting style (etudes or solo pieces)

l  major scales

l  chromatic scale demonstrating your full range

l  Sight reading

Graduate:

l  Two pieces of contrasting style (etudes or solo pieces)

l  Five orchestral excerpts

l  Sight reading

Euphonium (BM, MM, & DMA)

Two contrasting solo movements

l  1st and 2nd movements of Ellerby concerto

                           or

l  Horovitz concerto

                                         or

l  Two contrasting solo pieces that demonstrate technique and lyrical playing.

l  Know all major and minor scales.

Tuba (BM, MM, & DMA)

Two contrasting solo movements

l  The 1st and 2nd movements of Vaughn Williams tuba concerto

                         or

l  Gregson Tuba concerto

                                 or

l  Any two contrasting solo pieces that demonstrate technique and lyrical playing.

l  Know all major and minor scales.
