Percussion Audition Information

 

 

Video prescreen and audition repertoire requirements are identical. Each prescreen selection may be recorded in a separate video.

 

Percussion (MM)

 

  l  Snare Drum

 

ü  Delecluse: 12 Studies for Snare Drum (or similar)

ü  Two to three orchestral excerpts of the applicant's choice

 

l  Keyboard

 

ü  One two-mallet solo

ü  One four-mallet solo (Miki: Time for Marimba or similar)

ü  Two to three orchestral excerpts of the applicant's choice

 

l  Timpani

 

ü  Carter: 8 Pieces for Timpani (or similar)

ü  Two to three orchestral excerpts of the applicant's choice

 

l  Drum set

 

ü  Demonstrate knowledge of three to four basic styles

 

l  Multiple Percussion (not required)

 

ü  Xenakis: Rebonds (or similar)

 

l  World (not required but encouraged)

 

ü  Demonstrate at least one skill/style (examples: Afro-Cuban, African Drumming, Steel Pan, etc.)

 

 

 

 

Percussion (DMA)

 

 

l  Snare Drum

 

ü  Delecluse: 12 Studies for Snare Drum (or similar)

ü  Three to five orchestral excerpts of the applicant's choice

 

l  Keyboard

 

ü  Two contrasting 4-mallet solos OR one two-mallet and one four-mallet solo (Miki: Time for Marimba, Schwantner: Velocities or similar)

ü  Two to four orchestral excerpts of the applicant's choice

 

l  Timpani

 

ü  Carter: 8 Pieces for Timpani (or similar)

ü  Two to three orchestral excerpts of the applicant's choice

 

l  Drum set

 

ü  Demonstrate knowledge of three to four basic styles

 

l  Multiple Percussion

 

ü  Xenakis: Rebonds, Holliden: Cold Pressed or similar

 

l  World (not required but encouraged)

 

ü  Demonstrate at least one skill/style (examples: Afro-Cuban, African Drumming, Steel Pan, etc.)
