Brass Audition Information

 

 

 

Brass (MM & DMA)

Admission to the program of study for the MA (brass pedagogy), MM (brass performance), and DMA (brass performance) degrees will be determined by an audition committee on the basis of the applicant's ability to demonstrate sufficient performing ability to fulfill the requirements of the degree program.


 

Audition Requirements

1. Submit a repertoire list and provide programs and reviews (if available) of concerts performed.

 

2. The audition must include the following (memorization not required):

 

a. a movement from 2 concertos or sonatas, or 2 complete solos from contrasting style periods;
b. a variety of orchestral excerpts to demonstrate knowledge of standard literature;
c. two contrasting etudes to demonstrate competency in melodic and technical passages;
d. trumpet only: some demonstration of ability on the piccolo trumpet.

 

3. Applicants will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in sight reading.
