Voice & Opera Audition Information

 

Application Deadlines
Rutgers University Graduate School Application due December 1, 2018
Pre-screening Video (on-line submission) due December 15, 2018
Graduate School Supporting Documents (transcripts, letters of recommendation, etc.) due February 1, 2019

Application Steps:
1. Submit the Rutgers University application
2. After the university application is received, instructions for the submission of the supplemental application will be sent via email.
3. After the supplemental application and audition fee payment are received, instructions for the submission of the prescreening video will be sent via email.
4. After all prescreening videos have been evaluated, applicants will be contacted with the results by mid-January. Applicants whose video performance are approved will be invited to campus to sing LIVE auditions.

 

All Graduate Voice Applicants are required to submit a prescreening video in order to be considered for an invitation to sing a LIVE audition on campus. ONLY video recorded performances of the required repertoire will be accepted for the prescreening. Piano or Orchestral accompaniment is required except, in the rare instance, where the selection is designed as an "a cappella" piece. There should be no selection offered as "a cappella" that has a designed accompaniment. The video should include the full body of the singer and the accompanist must also be visible. 

 

Voice Performance (MM, AD, DMA)

Prescreen Repertoire
 •One opera aria
 •One oratorio aria
 •One German lied
 •One French melody
 •One English language art song

 

Please note: Repertoire should represent different musical time periods, contrasting tempi and moods. Musical theater selections are not acceptable. All selections must be memorized.  If the aria is not in Italian, then please include one other selection in Italian. 

 

Opera Studies (MM and Artist Diploma)

Prescreen Repertoire
 •One opera aria in Italian
 :•One opera aria in English
 •One opera aria in any other language

Five selections total
 •One opera aria
 •One oratorio aria
 •One German lied
 •One French melody
 •One English language art song

**Italian, French, German and English languages must be represented. One selection must be from the 20th or 21st centuries, preferably composed after 1950. Repertoire should represent different style periods, moods, and tempi. Musical theater selections are not acceptable. All selections must be memorized.

NINE selections total
 •Two opera arias

 •Two German Lieder
 •Two French melodies
 •Two English language Art Songs
