Scholarship Consideration
Students who audition after February 9, 2019  will not be eligible for merit scholarship consideration.

 

Bassoon (BM)

  • Three contrasting movements of a standard concerto, sonata or solo work
  • One etude from Weissenborn’s 50 Advanced Studies, Milde’s Concert Studies Op. 26 or equivalent etude

 

The total length of a live audition is 10 minutes. Piano accompaniment is not required.

 

A live audition is strongly recommended, however students who are unable to travel to Winston-Salem may submit a high-quality video audition. Repertoire requirements are the same as that of a live audition. Applicants should upload the video to an online service such as YouTube or Vimeo and submit the link to bassoon professor Saxton Rose at roses@uncsa.edu.

 

Clarinet (BM)

  • Two or three selections (including movements from sonatas and concertos)
  • Major and minor scales
  • Compositions should demonstrate your ability in phrasing, sustained playing and facility

Flute (BM)

  • Two movements of a J.S. Bach Sonata
  • First movement of a Mozart Concerto (G or D)
  • One Paris Conservatoire Piece (as from the Flute music by French Composers book – Schirmer)
  • Three Standard Orchestral Excerpts (as from the Baxtresser book)
  • Scales (all majors and melodic minors)
  • It is recommended that you play your audition as much as possible from memory, although memory is not required

Oboe (BM)

  • Two contrasting movements from a sonata or concerto (can be from different works)
  • One Barret or Ferling etude 
  • Major and minor scales

Saxophone (BM)

  • Two or three selections (including movements from sonatas and concertos)
  • Major and minor scales
