Voice (BM)

Be prepared to sing three selections of varying styles and tempi from Classical MusicArtsong repertoire. All selections must be memorized. All songs should be published and sung with piano accompaniment, unless they are published, un-accompanied songs (such as The Singer, by Michael Head.)

  • One selection in English
  • At least one selection in a foreign language
  • Folksongs arranged and published for solo classical singer

Not acceptable:

  • Musical Theater selections
  • Popular music selections normally sung with microphone
  • A cappella selections
  • Excerpts from choral arrangements

In addition to singing, you may be asked to sight-read.

You may bring your own accompanist, or we can supply one for you. Your accompanist fee of $25.00 covers both a rehearsal and audition. If you plan to use our accompanist:

  • Copies must be clear and legible, with all notes on the page aligned properly
  • No FAX copies
  • Copies must be in a binder, no loose pages; if the songs has more than one page, pages should be back-to-back

If you have any questions about the audition process or requirements, please contact voice department chair Marilyn Taylor at taylorm@uncsa.edu.
