Conducting Audition Information
Prescreening
Applicants to the following programs and instruments need to submit a prescreening video recording or portfolio for review before they can be invited to a live audition or interview.
Prescreening recordings and portfolios are due by December 1. Applicants will be notified of prescreening results in early January.
Choral Conducting Audition
Information
Audition Options
Choral Conducting applicants are required to audition in Boston and must first submit a prescreening video recording following the repertoire guidelines below.
Master of Music (MM) &
Master of Sacred Music (MSM)
Prescreening
The prescreening video recording should include 20–30 minutes of the candidate in rehearsal and/or performance with a choral ensemble. Please submit your prescreening recording online through our Acceptd portal.
Live Audition (if invited)

Each candidate will also be asked to sing an art song and play a solo keyboard composition at the level of a Bach two-part invention.
Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA)
Prescreening

The prescreening video should include 20–30 minutes of the candidate in rehearsal and/or performance with an orchestral ensemble.
Live Audition
Selected applicants will be invited to audition in person, and an audition in Boston is required. The live audition repertoire will be announced in early January with pre-screening results. Candidates will conduct an ensemble as the final part of the audition.
The live audition will also include an individual interview and a general musicianship examination.
