Strings Audition Information

 

Violin

MM and GPD

  • One unaccompanied sonata (complete)
  • First movement of a concerto with cadenza from standard repertoire
  • Two contrasting style works of your choice (complete)

 

DMA and Artist Diploma Programs

  • A complete concerto from the standard repertoire
  • One unaccompanied sonata or partita by J. S. Bach (complete)
  • Two contrasting style works of your choice (complete)

 

Viola

MM and GPD

The graduate repertoire in viola is patterned after a typical undergraduate senior recital. In order to provide some latitude, the requirements are not dictated. However, you must prepare sufficient material to perform a full solo recital containing works which show a diversity of periods and styles.

 

Artist Diploma

AD applicants must prepare a program of no less than 70 minutes duration, representing at least three style periods and including at least two large-scale works.

 

Cello

Prescreen Requirements

Cellists must upload a pre-screening video containing 10-15 minutes of music from the audition repertoire. The pre-screening video must be uploaded by December 1 for February Auditions and April 15 for May Auditions.

 

Live Audition Requirements

MM and GPD

The graduate audition repertoire in cello is patterned after a typical undergraduate senior recital. In order to provide some latitude, the requirements are not dictated.  However, you must prepare “sufficient material to perform a full solo recital containing works which show a diversity of periods and styles.”

Double Bass

MM and GPD

  • Three contrasting pieces from the standard repertoire, including at least one selection from the solo cello suites of J.S. Bach. Individual movements of sonatas, concertos, or suites are acceptable.
  • Four contrasting orchestral excerpts

 

Doctor of Musical Arts

The DMA repertoire in double bass is patterned after a typical graduate recital.  In order to provide some latitude, the requirements are not dictated.  However, you must prepare “sufficient material to perform a full solo recital containing works which show a diversity of periods and styles.”

 

Artist Diploma

AD applicants must prepare a program of no less than 70 minutes duration, representing at least three style periods and including at least two large-scale works.

 

Harp

Graduate Degrees

Please prepare a recital program based on or similar to a senior recital.  Works chosen should be memorized and demonstrate a range of technical and musical accomplishment.

 

Artist Diploma

AD applicants must prepare a program of no less than 70 minutes duration, representing at least three style periods and including at least two large-scale works.
