Dear Ms. Kathleen Y. Kim;

I am delighted to invite you to audition for the cello program at the Yale School of Music.

The audition dates for each instrument are listed online. You will receive another email very shortly with a survey regarding audition scheduling. To confirm your audition, you must fill out this survey by Monday, January 20. At the end of January you will receive your specific audition time. If for any reason you are not able to accept our invitation to audition, please immediately email lily.sutton@yale.edu.

Please prepare the same pieces that you submitted on your prescreening recording.
String players are strongly encouraged to perform their audition with piano accompaniment, and woodwind players are required to have piano accompaniment. If you are unable to bring your own accompanist to New Haven, we invite you to contact a Yale pianist to work with you. We will send you a list of available pianists when we send your audition time at the end of January. You may negotiate schedules and rates directly with the pianist you contact.
On the day of your audition, you will be assigned a private warm-up room with a Steinway piano for 30–60 minutes directly before your audition. You will be guaranteed the use of this room.
For additional practice, you may use Yale’s practice rooms on the day of your audition and one day before. Practice rooms will not be available on other days. It is not necessary to sign up for these rooms. Rooms will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Rooms should be equipped with a music stand for your use, but it is recommended that you bring your own music stand as well. Please adhere to the following schedule:
Practice rooms at 320 Temple Street will be available from 8:00am to 11:00pm.
Practice rooms in Sprague Hall (470 College Street) will be available from 8:00am to 11:00pm. Enter Sprague Hall through the main doors on College Street and go downstairs one level to the practice facility. If the doors are locked, someone will be available inside to open the door.
All applicants must check in on the date of their audition or interview anytime after 8:00am. You will receive audition and warm-up location information at that time. Here is a link to maps of School of Music facilities.
Check-In Locations:
Brass, percussion, choral conducting, and opera: Hendrie Hall (165 Elm Street)

Several Yale School of Music performances will be presented during audition week and we welcome you to attend as many as you can. We encourage you to take a look at our online concert calendar before your visit.
