December 23, 2012

Dear Ms. Kathleen Y. Kim:

I am delighted to invite you to audition for the piano program at the Yale School of Music.

AUDITION DATE AND TIME

You will receive another email before the end of January with your specific audition time. The audition dates are listed online. Please email me at lily.sutton@yale.edu by January 3 to confirm that you are planning to attend your audition. If you have any major conflicts on the scheduled date(s), or if you would like to request a specific date, please include this information in your email. If you are not able to accept our invitation to audition, please email me by January 3. The Office of Admission will be closed for the holidays from December 24-January 3, and I will be responding to all emails as soon as possible after I return on January 7.

AUDITION GUIDELINES
Please take this opportunity to review the
repertoire guidelines on our website. For most instruments, the audition guidelines are the same as the prescreening recording guidelines; in these cases, your audition repertoire may be the same as your prescreening repertoire, or it may be different. This is your choice, as long as the repertoire you perform adheres to the guidelines. For certain instruments, however, the audition guidelines are different from the prescreening recording guidelines, so please read the guidelines carefully.

PRACTICE ROOMS
On the day of your audition, you will be assigned a private warm-up room with a Steinway piano for 30–60 minutes directly before your audition. You will be guaranteed the use of this room.

For additional practice, you may use Yale’s practice rooms on the day of your audition and one day before. Practice rooms will not be available on other days. It is not necessary to sign up for these rooms. Rooms will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Rooms should be equipped with a music stand for your use, but it is recommended that you bring your own music stand as well. Please adhere to the following schedule:

Practice rooms at 320 Temple Street will be available from 8:00am to 11:00pm.

Practice rooms in Sprague Hall (470 College Street) will be available from 8:00am to 11:00pm. Enter Sprague Hall through the main doors on College Street and go downstairs one level to the practice facility. If the doors are locked, someone will be available inside to open the door.
