Moores School of Music 은 University of Houston 의 음대입니다. 음대는 music performance, conducting, theory, composition, music history and literature, pedagogy, 그리고 music education 에서 BA in Music, BM, MM, 그리고 DMA 학위를 수여합니다. 

또한, Performance에서 자격증을 수여합니다.

1940년에 Houston주립대학 음악학부가 세워졌고, 1969년 University of Houston School of Music 으로 공식 지명됐습니다. 

사업가이며 Houston 대학 졸업생인 John Moores 와 그의 아내 Rebecca가 1991년에 수백만 불을 기부함에 따라 현재의 

시설들을 건축하고, 학교 이름을 Moores School of Music  으로 부르기 시작했습니다. 현재 학장은 Courtney Crappell 입니다.

음대에는 80여명의 교수진에 600개에 달하는 음악 전공이 있습니다. 1997년 Houston 대학 캠퍼스 내 음대빌딩으로 이전했고, 

학생들, 교수진, 초청 연주자가 공연하는 콘서트, 리사이틀 등으로 연중 바쁜 공연일정을 소화하고 있습니다. 악단으로 여러 번 

Grammy 상 수상후보로 지명된 Wind Ensemble은 World Association of Symphonic Bands and Ensembles (WASBE)에서 

연주했으며, School Symphony Orchestra, the Concert Chorale, 현대음악 악단인 AURA, Jazz Orchestra, the Spirit of Houston 

Cougar Marching Band, the Symphonic Winds, the Concert Band, the Cougar Brass, the Choral Artists, the Chamber Singers, the Houston Symphony Chorus 등이 있고, 수십명의 오페라 가수를 배출한 Houston Opera Studio 는 그 시초인 1977년부터 1992년까지 음대와 partnership으로 운영됐었습니다. 

Moores School of Music Bands & Ensembles

Blake Wilkins박사가 이끄는 음대 타악기악단은 세 번의 Percussive Arts Society (PAS) 의 “Call for Tapes” 경연에서 우승하고 

PAS의 International Convention에서 연주했습니다. 세 번의 공개행사에서의 연주는 미국에서 두 번째의 기록입니다. 현재 

세 장의 상업용 CD가 발매됐습니다.

2400만 불 가치의 음대빌딩의 핵심은 800석의 Opera Center입니다. 건물 안에는 50개의 교습용 studio와 60개의 연습실, 대형 도서실, 최신 청취, 작곡 시설, 녹음실, 4개의 rehearsal room, 라운지가 있습니다.
