Conducting (BM)

 

 

l  The University of Washington School of Music offers extensive opportunities for graduate studies in conducting for orchestra, wind, and choral ensemble, with degree pathways at the master's and doctoral level.

 

l  No BM degree in Conducting is offered and basic information is as follows: 

 

 

ü  One full year of conducting courses featuring two quarters of choral conducting and one quarter of instrumental

      conducting  

ü  Frequent integration of conducting and music education methods courses, allowing students to transport principles of

      gesture into rehearsal  

ü  Podium time for undergraduate music majors through University Chorale Diva Section Leader Scholarships  

ü  Traditional conducting techniques fused with the latest trends in conducting pedagogy, including the methodology of

      Laban, Alexander, and Saito  

ü  Holistic educational techniques to teach the process of ensemble culture-building  

ü  Diverse array of choral ensembles sing in various styles; opportunities to tour across the United States and internationally
