String Audition Information

 

 

 

Violin (BM)

 

l  A concerto movement or concert solo and a contrasting work (such as an unaccompanied Bach, concert piece, sonata movement or contemporary work).

l  Étude or caprice demonstrating level of proficiency.

l  Scales in three octaves are required.

 

 

 

Viola (BM)

 

l  A concerto movement or concert solo and a contrasting work (such as an unaccompanied Bach, concert piece, sonata movement or contemporary work).

l  Scales in three octaves are required.

 

 

 

Cello (BM)

 

l  Two contrasting works that display technical and musical ability.

l  One of these two works must be a movement of a standard concerto.

l  In addition, one étude of appropriate difficulty.

l  All major/minor scales and sight-reading are required.

 

 

 

Double Bass (BM)

 

l  Perform two works in contrasting styles from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic and Contemporary periods (e.g. Eccles and Bottesini) which demonstrate the applicant’s highest level of technical proficiency and musical expression.

l  Sight-reading is required, and major and harmonic minor scales should also be prepared (from memory).

 

 

 

Harp (BM)

 

l  Two solos from contrasting periods (classical and modern) and one orchestral excerpt.

l  Two scales and arpeggios of choice and sight-reading are required.
