Composition Portfolio Information

 

 

 

Composition (BM)

 

Composition portfolio must include:

 

l  Complete and bound scores for 2-3 recent, representative works, accompanied by recordings. – Arrangements will not be accepted.

l  In-progress works will not be accepted.

l  MIDI recordings will be accepted.

l  For electronic uploads, scores must be in pdf format.

l  Do not upload Finale or Sibelius files. – Hard copies of scores must be mailed to the Office of Admissions, attn:

        A minimum of two weeks prior to the applicant’s scheduled audition date.

 

l  A 100-word artist statement. Incomplete applications will not be considered.

l  In addition to an interview and review of their portfolio, Composition applicants audition in either a major instrument or voice (classical idiom). Please refer to the appropriate instrument section for detailed information regarding the audition requirements.

 

 

Composition Interview

 

l  Prospective Composition majors will complete an interview with the director of Composition to discuss the contents of the applicant’s portfolio, which must be submitted two weeks prior to the audition date.

l  In addition to portfolio review, the interview will assess the applicant’s current musical knowledge, experience, and goals, as well as the student’s communication skills about their own creative work.
