Brass Audition Information

 

 

 

 

Brass

 

l  All applicants must upload a video recording for preliminary evaluation purposes along with all other application materials by the priority music application deadline.

l  The requirements for the video recording are the same as the live audition requirements.

 

 

Brass (MM)

 

l  Students should be prepared to demonstrate all major and minor scales on the full range of the instrument.

l  Three selections of contrasting style. One of these should be a movement from a concerto. The other two selections should be taken from standard repertoire for the instrument.

l  Five excerpts from the standard orchestral repertoire. Euphonium students may use excerpts from the band repertoire.

 

 

 

Brass (DMA)

 

l  An hour-long audition program that reflects a diversity of styles is required.

l  At least one major work should be memorized (i.e., a concerto or major unaccompanied work).

 

Ø  Proper attire is recommended for the audition.

Ø  Please have one copy of your audition music for the audition panel.

Ø  It is strongly recommended that you use an accompanist on selections that require piano.

Ø  You are strongly encouraged to bring your own accompanist.

Ø  If you need help securing a local accompanist, you must contact the brass chair one month prior to your audition date.  

Ø  Printed copies of all piano music must be provided at this time.
