Woodwinds Audition Information 

Bassoon (BM)  

       l  Concerto or solo piece of your choice, 1st and 2nd movements

       l  One lyrical Weissenborn étude

       l  One Milde scale/chord study from Op. 24

       l  Major scales - full range

       l  Marriage of Figaro Overture, mm 139-171 

 Flute (BM)  

l  Flute applicants must submit a screening audition for review via the Audition and Screening Dropbox on your Applicant Portal.

      l  Screening Recordings and Recorded Auditions must be audio/video recordings. Audio only recordings will not be accepted.

      l  Screening deadline: December 4 

Screening Requirements

Faure: Morceau de Concours for flute and piano; minimum of one additional piece of applicant's own choice.

• The piano accompaniment is required for the Faure: Morecau de Concours, but the rest of the recording may be submitted without piano accompaniment. Sheet music is available for free at http://www.flutetunes.com/tunes/faure-morceau-de-concours.pdf.

Final Audition Requirements

Two or three selections—including movements from sonatas, concertos, and other solo pieces—of contrasting styles from standard repertoires. It is recommended that the piece required for screening, Faure: Morceau de Concours, not be one of the final audition pieces chosen. Compositions chosen should demonstrate the applicant's ability in phrasing, sustained playing, and technical facility, including legato and staccato at varied tempi.  While not required, orchestral excerpts are welcomed and encouraged.

• Bring a printed program listing your audition repertoire to your live audition.

Please note: Due to the off-campus performing schedule of Alexa Still, on-campus flute auditions will not be offered on February 2.

 Oboe (BM) 

 Two or three selections—including movements from sonatas, concertos, and other solo pieces—of contrasting styles from standard repertoires; major and minor scales. Compositions chosen should demonstrate the applicant's ability in phrasing, sustained playing, and technical facility, including legato and staccato at varied tempi. Oboists should also perform one of the Sixteen Grand Studies of Barret.

Saxophone (BM)
