Strings Audition Information

 

Violin (MM, AD, DMA)
 •Two contrasting movements of a concerto from the standard repertory with cadenza, if applicable
  Examples: Beethoven, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, Shostakovich, Prokofiev, etc.
 •Two movements of an unaccompanied Partita or Sonata of J.S. Bach, 
or only
 the Ciaconna from Partita no. 2
 •A Paganini Caprice, or movement from the solo Sonatas of Ysäye
 •One movement of a 19th or 20th century Sonata for Violin and Piano

 

Viola (MM, AD, DMA)

 •Two movements of a concerto from the standard repertory
 •Two movements from the unaccompanied works of Bach (originally for cello or violin)
 •One movement from a Sonata or equivalent work
 •A work of the applicant's choice: either a contemporary work or a piece to display the applicant's technical virtuosity

 

Cello (MM, AD, DMA)
 •Two contrasting movements of a concerto or equivalent work from the standard repertory with cadenza, if applicable
  Examples: Haydn D major, Dvorak, Schumann, Elgar, Schostakovich, Tchaikovsky Rococo Variations, or Block Schelmomo)
 •Two movements, including a Prelude, from an unaccompanied Suite by J.S. Bach
 •One movement of a 19th or 201th century Sonata for Cello and Piano
 •A work of the applicant’s choice: either a contemporary work, 
or a piece to display the applicant's technical virtuosity (such as those by Popper, Piatti, Davidov or Servais)

 

Double Bass (MM, AD, DMA)
 •Two contrasting movements of a standard double bass concerto with cadenza or comparable works from the standard double bass solo repertoire
 •Three orchestral excerpts from the standard orchestral repertoire
 •Two movements of a solo Bach Cello Suite in any key
 •A work of the applicant's choice

 

Harp (MM, AD, DMA)

 •  Bach/Grandjany Etude
 •  Two contrasting solos
 •  Two movements from one of the following:

- Major concerto

- Debussy Danses  •  Ravel Introduction and Allegro
 •  Two major orchestral excerpts and one cadenza that reflects the applicants proficiency.
