String Audition Information
Violin
- Concerto from standard repertoire, 1st
movement (with cadenza if applicable) or 2nd plus 3rd movement
- Two contrasting movements from an
unaccompanied Bach sonata or partita
- One concert etude from one of the following:
Kreutzer, Rode, Dont, Gavinie, Paganini
Viola
- Two contrasting movements of unaccompanied
Bach or one unaccompanied work
- One movement from a standard sonata (Brahms,
Schubert, Schumann, Shostakovich) or a comparable work
- One movement from the Bartok, Walton, or
Hindemith concertos or a virtuoso movement from a standard classical
concerto
Cello
Cellists
must upload a pre-screening video containing 10-15 minutes of music from the
audition repertoire. The pre-screening video must be uploaded by December 1 for
February Auditions and April 15 for May Auditions.
- The first movement of a concerto from
standard literature
- Two contrasting movements from any Bach
suite or Baroque sonata
- One etude from one of the following: Duport
21 Etudes, Popper High School of Cello Playing, Piatti 12
Caprices
Double Bass
- Two contrasting pieces from the standard
repertoire. Individual movements of sonatas, concertos, or suites are
acceptable.
- Two contrasting orchestral excerpts

The
Bachelor of Music degree program at Peabody Conservatory is designed to offer
