Brass Audition Information

 

Trumpet

Prescreen Requirements

Please submit an audio recording of 5-10 minutes that is representative of your ability. The musical selections do not necessarily need to come from the audition requirements.

Live Audition Requirements

  • Please play the selections indicated for your prospective degree program in the order listed
  • Graduate candidates may use any key trumpet they prefer
  • No memorization is required
  • It is not required to have a pianist for any audition, though you are welcome to use piano if it is convenient. If playing without piano, count out all rests as marked

Master of Music, 15 minutes

  1. A. Honegger Intrada — complete
  2. H. Stevens Sonata for Trumpet and Piano, first movement —complete
  3. Orchestral excerpts

Doctor of Musical Arts

Horn

  1. A first movement of a major concerto or similar work
  2. Three-five standard orchestral audition excerpts of your choice
  3. Other repertoire (which may include solos, etudes, or excerpts) of your choice, if needed, to fill out a program of 30 minutes for the MM and 60 minutes for the DMA. Selected portions will be heard

Tuba
