Composition Portfolio Information

 

1. Complete the University Application, including the following materials:

• Transcripts from every institution from which you have earned a degree
• Three (3) Letters of Reference
• Personal Statement
• Resume or C.V.

• DMA applicants only: Upload one sample of your scholarly writing about music (e.g., a research paper from a music theory/analysis, music history or composition class.  

• DMA applicants only: Self-report grades from core academic music courses. 

• Additional Program Specific Requirements:

The following must be uploaded to the University of Illinois School of Music Dropbox:

• Upload a portfolio of 4-5 notated original compositions.
• Upload recordings of performance of applicant's compositions (if available)
• Upload a list of compositions; include instrumentation.

Qualified applicants will be invited to interview with faculty. Invited applicants will be contacted shortly after January 1 to arrange an on-campus interview. If the applicant is not available for an on-campus interview, arrangements may be made for a live video-conference or phone interview. All invited applicants will be considered for admission and merit-based aid.
