Composition Portfolio Information

Prescreen is required on the following: Choral Conducting, Classical Flute, Classical Tuba, Classical Viola, Classical Violin, Jazz Instrumentalists/Vocalists, Keyboard Degrees, Orchestral/Wind Conducting

 

Classical composition portfolio

Music Composition

Graduate students applying to Music Composition must submit a portfolio of their compositions. The portfolio should be submitted via SlideRoom by January 1.

Applicants to the Master of Music or Doctor of Musical Arts in Composition

Upload representative samples of several music scores that you have composed. Scores should be your original works (not arrangements). You are also encouraged to upload audio files of your compositions if available. It is preferable that these audio files are recordings of performances, but you may also submit MIDI renditions if necessary.  After review of portfolios, finalists for teaching assistantships will be invited to do an on-campus interview.

 

Jazz Composition portfolio

Studio Jazz Writing & Jazz Composition

Graduate students applying to Studio Jazz Writing or Jazz Composition must submit a portfolio of their compositions. The portfolio should be submitted via SlideRoom by January 1.

Applicants to the Master of Music in Studio Jazz Writing

The portfolio should include a broad sampling of representative works of your creative efforts. The portfolio should include musical scores and an audio recording of the works.

Applicants to the Doctor of Musical Arts in Jazz Composition

The portfolio should include a broad sampling of representative works of your creative efforts. The portfolio should include musical scores and an audio recording of the works.
