Trumpet

Applicants for all degrees

Trombone

Applicants for the Master of Music

A live audition is preferred.  The audition should contain 20-30 minutes of selections from the following:

Tenor Trombone:

  • Two contrasting solo works from the standard solo repertoire, in their entirety
  • Orchestra excerpts selected from the following:
    • Berlioz Hungarian March
    • Mahler Symphony No. 3
    • Mozart Tuba Mirum from Requiem
    • Ravel Bolero
    • Rossini William Tell Overture
    • Saint Saens Symphony No. 3
    • Wagner Ride of the Valkyries

Bass Trombone:

  • Two contrasting solo works from the standard solo repertoire, in their entirety
  • Orchestra excerpts selected from the following:
    • Berlioz Hungarian March
    • Haydn The Creation
    • Rossini William Tell Overture
    • Schumann Symphony No. 3
    • Wagner Ride of the Valkyries

Applicants for the Doctor of Musical Arts

A live audition is required. The audition should be a 30 minute performance of selections from the following:

Tenor or Bass Trombone:

  • In addition to the orchestral excerpts listed above, applicants must perform three contrasting solo works from the standard solo repertoire, one of which must be a Baroque transcription, and one of which must be a Contemporary piece

Applicants for the Artist Diploma

  • For students holding a Bachelor’s degree in performance: the requirements are the same as the Master of Music
  • For students holding a Master’s degree in performance: the requirements are the same as the Doctor of Musical Arts

Note: Prior to the audition, all applicants are encouraged to confirm their audition material with Professor Tim Conner by e-mail.

 

Tuba

Prescreening and On-Campus Audition Requirements

Select two or three contrasting etudes or solos (or movements from a concerto or sonata) which best demonstrate your tone, range, technique and lyric ability.
