- Two contrasting etudes from the Milde
Concert Studies
- Mozart Concerto in Bb, K.191, complete
- A single movement from a contrasting
concerto
- A single movement from a 20th-century sonata
(or a piece for bassoon alone, e.g. Osborne Rhapsody )
- Three contrasting orchestral excerpts

Clarinet
BACHELORS DEGREE REQUIREMENTS
- A fast movement from a standard
concerto comparable to those of Mozart and Weber (including Weber,
Concertino)
- Two contrasting études from C.
Rose, 32 études; Polatschek, Advanced Studies; Cavallini, Caprices (or
comparable repertoire)
- Performance majors only: add a
second contrasting solo work
MASTER OF MUSIC & GRADUATE PROFESSIONAL DIPLOMA
- The first movement of any standard concerto
(such as those by Mozart, Weber or Spohr), or the Debussy Premiere
Rapsodie, or Rossini Introduction, Theme and Variations
- A fast movement from a standard concerto
comparable to those of Mozart and Weber
- A second contrasting work
- Two contrasting etudes selected from Rose,
Cavallini (Caprices), Jeanjean, Polatschek Advanced Studies, Rose 32
Etudes, or Uhl 48 Etudes
- Three contrasting orchestral excerpts
DOCTOR OF MUSICAL ARTS & ARTIST DIPLOMA
- The first movement of any standard concerto

Martino A Set for Clarinet , Miklos Rozsa Sonatina ,
William O. Smith Five Pieces , Stravinsky Three

Note: Bass clarinet is an accepted audition instrument for undergraduate
applicants to majors other than clarinet performance. All clarinet performance
applicants are expected to perform auditions on A or B-flat clarinet.

PRELIMINARY AUDITION RECORDING REQUIREMENTS
An
electronic preliminary audition recording (via YouTube, Dropbox etc.), is required of all graduate
flute performance majors. The preliminary recording must contain the following:
- Mozart Concerto in G or D Major -
expositions of 1st and 2nd movements
- Contrasting solo of choice
- Three contrasting orchestral
excerpts of choice

- Mozart Concerto in G or D Major,
1st and 2nd movement
- J. S. Bach: any sonata, 2
contrasting movements
- Major 20th century Sonata for
flute and piano

- Brahms Symphony No. 4 - Movt. 4, measures
93-105
- Mendelssohn Scherzo from A Midsummer
Night's Dream, 2 measures before P to the end

- Five excerpts from the orchestral
repertoire.
Saxophone
UNDERGRADUATE REQUIREMENTS
- Two contrasting movements from a
standard sonata or concerto (i.e. Creston, Glazounov, Heiden, Ibert,
Maurice, Milhaud, etc.)
- Two Ferling études (one slow, one
fast)

GPD saxophone applicants should prepare a program of a minimum of two major
works. These should demonstrate musical and stylistic variety and should
represent your highest level of musical and technical development.

Note:
All DMA and AD candidates must audition with piano accompaniment where
appropriate. If you require an accompanist for your audition, you may
bring your own or request a Hartt accompanist. There is a $50 fee for a Hartt
accompanist, which includes the audition and one 30-minute rehearsal (on the
day of the audition). If you require an accompanist, you must notify Hartt
Admissions at harttadm@hartford.edu at
least three (3) weeks prior to your audition. Be sure to include your name,
contact information, degree program, instrument, warm-up and
audition times, and repertoire that requires accompaniment.
DMA and
